DENVER – Dry, windy conditions have prompted warnings of high fire danger in the northeastern portion of the state Monday.

A red flag warning is in effect until 5 p.m. for areas east from Fort Collins to the Kansas state line.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Boulder said winds would be out of the west at 10 to 20 miles per hour with gusts up to 35 mph. Relative humidity is as low as 9 percent.

Higher elevations can expect winds as strong as 70 mph.

Forecasters said conditions will change Monday afternoon into Tuesday night, with several inches of snow expected in the higher elevations and a few rain showers on the plains.
