BOISE, IDAHO — A 3-year-old girl who was stabbed by a 30-year-old man at her birthday party in Boise has died of her injuries.

Timmy Kinner has been charged with first-degree murder and several felonies including injury to a child and aggregated battery in connection to the attack, which targeted the girl’s birthday party at an apartment complex in Boise Saturday evening. He is being held without bond.

The man said he wants to represent himself in court, but an Ada County Judge ordered that Kinner be appointed a public defender anyway.

Police said Kinner attacked a group of children and adults at the party, which was held in an apartment that’s home to many refugee families. Six children ranging from ages 4 to 12 and three adults were injured.

Kinner was arrested a short distance away from the scene.

Kinner is American and the victims are members of refugee families from Syria, Iraq and Ethiopia. Boise Police Chief William Bones said evidence doesn’t suggest the attack was a hate crime.

Bones said Kinner had stayed at the apartment complex previously, but was asked to leave Friday over bad behavior. Police said he may have been trying to get revenge after he was asked to leave.
