COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A giant blue picture frame that suddenly appeared at Garden of the Gods last week is no more.

The installation, which was to remain at the site until the end of 2018, was kicked out four days after arriving to the state by angry residents from Colorado Springs who found the sight of it insulting.

The 12-foot by 8-foot steel frame was intended to promote the City of Colorado Springs as Olympic City USA, according to city officials. But after thousands of people signed an online petition against it, the city announced Monday that it would be relocated.

Just before noon Monday, the giant blue frame was nowhere to be found.

The online petition argued that the frame violated an agreement between the city and the family that donated the park prohibiting the constructions of any buildings or structures except those needed to protect and maintain it.

It’s not clear where the frame will be relocated. A city spokesperson said, “while the initial execution was flawed, we are excited about the opportunity to eventually relocate the frame to a spot where it can meet its original objectives and become an amenity for both our visitors and our local residents to enjoy.”
