WELD COUNTY, Colo. – People in Weld County were evacuated Monday night following a generator fire at an oil and gas site that created flames up to 30 feet high, according to the chief of the Platteville Gilcrest Fire Protection District.

Chief Matt Concialdi told Denver7 that Platteville Gilcrest and LaSalle Fire departments received calls of a structure fire at PDC Energy, near Weld County Road 38 and Weld County Road 35, around 8:42 p.m. Monday.

When crews arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke, with flames that were between 20 to 30 feet high and about 50-60 feet wide.

Concialdi told Denver7 the blaze involved a generator that caught fire. He said everyone was evacuated and there were no reported injuries.

Over two dozen firefighters worked to contain the fire overnight with firefighting foam and water.

It was fully extinguished and crews had cleared the scene by 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Concialdi said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
