GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — Garfield County commissioners have rejected a request by citizens groups to have a state hearing on the recent approval of an oil and gas project within the Battlement Mesa residential development.
The Daily Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/2cNbZz0 ) that commissioners turned down the request by Battlement Concerned Citizens and the Grand Valley Citizens Alliance because Ursa Resource's application will already undergo the county's review process, which includes multiple public hearings.
The citizen groups wanted the county to seek a hearing before the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission on the matter. Commission rules state that the groups could not request the hearings themselves.
Ursa isn't seeking approval for a well yet, but instead has sought surface approval because it may seek a well permit later.
