BROOMFIELD, Colo. — A local outdoor manufacturing company has shifted to manufacturing medical personal protective equipment to help local hospitals and first responders.

The Allen Company has been in operation in Broomfield for fifty years, making hunting, shooting, and archery accessories along with grill and patio furniture covers. When the team saw the shortage of PPE, they decided to do something about it.

“We knew we had the sewing capabilities and the materials,” sales director Kelly Day told Denver7. “We developed the masks, took them to a local hospital, and got the material approved.”

That material, used for both masks and gowns, is non-woven polypropylene. The company already had a large supply of it, since it is used in a majority of the soft-sided gun cases that they make.

“We have made tens of thousands of (masks and gowns) and we are supplying to the local hospitals and the local first responders and outlining towns,” Day said.

The company is providing the PPE to those sources for free.

“These people have taken care of us for years," Day said. "It’s nice to know we had the ability to do something nice for them."
