FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Fort Collins Police Services arrested a Fort Collins man accused of firing a gun multiples times in a group of people late Thursday night.
Police responded to the intersection of Oak Street and College Avenue around 11:15 p.m. Thursday to find an adult male with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital to be treated.
According to police, a disturbance happened within the group and a man pulled out a handgun and fire multiple shots before taking off in a vehicle. Police later made a high-risk traffic stop of the suspected vehicle and took Abdirahman Ahmed, 22, into custody. They recovered a handgun during the investigation.
“This was an incredibly dangerous crime committed with complete disregard for the lives of others,” Fort Collins Police Services Chief Jeff Swoboda said. “I'm grateful to the officers who responded rapidly, secured the scene and safely took the suspect into custody."
Ahmed was booked into the Larimer County Jail on charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and three counts of felony menacing.
