FORT COLLINS, Colo. — For Wadoo Home and Gifts in Fort Collins, “window shopping” is no longer just a term for browsing.
Wadoo shut its doors back in March and was closed for 5 months. During that time, owner Amy Satterfield was thinking of a way to open safely.
“Amy Satterfield, who owns Wadoo, is like many Americans and she has a compromised immune system,” said Mary Ann Hahn-Strand, who has worked at Wadoo since 2014. “She was very concerned from the beginning on how we were going to proceed. She didn't want to shut the shop.”
Satterfield instead turned to a different way to shop; items are displayed in the store window and a number is placed next to the item. Customers are then able to look at a price list of the items and call into the store, where a clerk will answer the phone and fill the order.
“It’s all contactless. I can bring out the bag and put it down and you pick it up and you’re ready to go,” said Hahn-Strand.
Hahn-Strand says that the community response has been excellent.
“We have a great community in downtown Fort Collins, and I don’t think anybody wants to see any more businesses shutter,” she said. “People are out and they are truly trying to support.”
