DENVER -- As we head into Christmas week, some find it more important to focus on those less fortunate. For one group they're bringing meals right to where they are needed, giving a food truck a larger purpose.
“It’s about the encounter and being a sign for good in the world,” said Brother Christopher Gama.
Brother Gama is part of the Capuchin Franciscan homeless ministry. A big piece of their spirituality is being close to the poor in the Denver Metro Area.
“We are putting it in action, making it lived and being a human example of what it means to be sons of Saint Francis,” said Brother Gama.
In order to continue reaching the population in need, the order of brothers is bringing their services straight to where they are needed.
“That’s the beauty of the truck, that human contact,” said Brother Gama.
Their food truck has been operating for about a month now. Each weekend, volunteers make hundreds of meals at local churches. They’re then loaded up on the truck and handed out at various locations to feed the homeless in Denver.
Beyond providing food and beverages, the brothers give out hand warmers, gloves and hats too.
“These folks out here help us to learn how to be better brothers to one another,” said Brother Gama. ”One of the gifts that we can bring as brothers is friendship."
There is a family that supports the ministry and provides the funds to buy the food for the homeless.
