A fire damaged 20 storage units in Brighton early Thursday morning.

It started at the Pony Express Mini Storage sometime before 3 a.m. The storage facility is located at 180 Bromley Business Parkway.

People driving by on Interstate 76 noticed the smoke and flames and called 911.

Firefighters had to cut into a storage unit to get inside.

The flames were out by 5:30 a.m. but smoke was still coming from the units at 6 a.m., Denver7 Reporter Jason Gruenauer said.

The company is in the process of notifying the customers impacted by the fire.

The fire left the structure unstable.
