WINDSOR, Colo. — A local family is asking people to send cards and letters to celebrate Don Albright's 50th birthday.
Don was adopted by his foster family when he was toddler. He had some disabilities and now lives in a care home.
Birthdays and Christmas are a big deal for him.
"Since they're about six months apart, it's something he anticipates every year," explained Don's brother, Martin Albright. "[Don] gets excited for Christmas. As soon as Christmas is over, he gets excited for his birthday."
June 11th is Don's 50th birthday and he was looking forward to a big party.
The Albrights were planning a bowling party with pizza and cake, some of Don's favorite things. But then COVID-19 hit.
The place where Don is staying is locked down for safety, so Don can't leave.
"We wanted to find another way to make his birthday as special as possible," Martin said.
Martin's wife suggested a post on Facebook asking for cards and letters.
"He loves getting mail," Martin said. "Just to give him something to be excited about."
"Our main goal was to make this something he will remember," Martin said.
