EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — Authorities in El Paso County are investigating a homicide after they found a man unconscious in a full kiddie pool.

On Thursday around 12:30 a.m., officers with the Manitou Springs Police Department were dispatched to a report of an assault on the 600 block of Manitou Avenue. When they arrived at the scene, they found an unconscious male outside of an apartment in a kiddie pool full of water, the sheriff’s office said. The man was unresponsive.

Medical personnel started to tend to the man, and he was transported to a local hospital where he died.

Two men have been arrested in connection to the man’s death:
· Freddie Joseph Crespo, 32
· John Robert Swinehart, 25

They were originally arrested and booked into the El Paso Jail on charges of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault. Those charges were upgraded to first-degree murder, the sheriff’s office said.

El Paso County Sheriff's Office is investigating the homicide, at the request of the Manitou Springs Police Department. The sheriff’s office said they don’t have any reason to believe the public is in danger.

The coroner’s office will release the man’s identity.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office at 719-390-5555.
