EDGEWATER, Colo. -- An Edgewater woman said she's lucky to be alive, after an out-of-control driver came crashing into her bedroom.

"I was asleep," Tammy Sanchez said. "I don't know if I heard a noise first, or felt something hit my head."

Sanchez said she saw something slide by her bed, then realized it was a car on its side.

At first, she thought she was dreaming, she said.

Her son, Michael Ortiz, told Denver7 that if the car had come in on it's wheels, the area of impact would have been greater, and it might have slammed in to Tammy's bed rather than gliding up against it.

"I couldn't get out," Ms. Sanchez said. "Then I saw smoke or something, and smelled something, and started screaming for someone to call 911."

She said she couldn't get to the door, so she crawled out the window.

"I think God was watching over me and my dogs, because my dogs were in the room," she said.

Edgewater police said they arrested the driver, 25-year-old Kyle James Keegan.

He's being held in the Jefferson County Jail for investigation of reckless driving, reckless endangerment, DUI and a charge related to property damage.

Keegan is scheduled to appear in Jefferson County Court on Monday morning.
