BRIGHTON, Colo. – The driver of a semi-truck that crashed into a ravine off Highway E-470 near E. 120th Ave. Thursday morning has died, according to family members and Colorado State Patrol.

Family members identified the driver as Steven Martinez and said they were told he had died at an area hospital Thursday afternoon. CSP confirmed the driver of the truck had died but did not identify the driver on Friday.

CSP Trooper Gary Cutler said Friday that further investigation into the crash shows that Martinez’s semi drifted to the left lanes of the road, hit a guard rail and went over the bridge into the ravine. Cutler said the investigation was not complete, however.

The crash happened just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes of E-470. The driver was extricated from the crunched cab of the truck and taken to a hospital by Air Life.

The coroner’s office has not formally identified Martinez as the driver of the truck.
