Driver arrested after deadly collision with motorcycle rider in Douglas County

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. – A man accused of fatally hitting a motorcycle rider with his car early Monday near County Line Road and Piney Lake Road in Douglas County, then fleeing the scene, has been arrested, the sheriff’s office said Monday afternoon.

The driver, identified as 29-year-old Manuel Frias-Cabrera, of Commerce City, is being investigated for charges of vehicular homicide, failure to remain at the scene of a crash, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and careless driving resulting in death.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’ Office, deputies were called out to the crash at the intersection in Douglas County after a car hit a motorcycle around 6:20 a.m. The rider of the motorcycle, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said the driver of the car fled on foot but was later captured and arrested.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says he will be booked on a $50,000 bond and that investigators believe drugs and/or alcohol might have been a factor in the crash.

The motorcycle rider was identified by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office as 56-year-old David Neubert. The cause and manner of death are still under investigation.
