DENVER – After nearly four decades in business, local retailer Molly’s of Denver is shutting its doors for good.

For 36 years, the boutique has offered a range of women’s attire from business outfits to ball gowns and blue jeans.

Owner Molly Broeren bought the store, then located in the Brown Palace Hotel, in 1981 and seven years later moved it to its current location at 1660 Stout St.

Broeren told the Denver Business Journal that she’s closing up shop because she could no longer compete with online retailers.

"I’m grateful to all who supported me and were my loyal clientele over the years. It has been a pleasure and source of pride to be in business in downtown Denver and I appreciate the support of the downtown business community,” Broeren said.

The store will be selling off all of its remaining merchandise in a going-out-of-business sale. Molly’s has been closed all week to prepare for the sale but the store will reopen Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m.
