WELD COUNTY, Colo. — The Weld County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in identifying the person responsible for the suspicious death of a dog.

The dog was found Monday afternoon dead inside a car that was damaged from a vandal who broke out the vehicle's window and set fire to a nearby trash can.

The car was parked in the 1800 block of Dilmont Avenue in unincorporated Weld County near Linn Grove Cemetery.

Deputies interviewed the dog owner, a family member and neighbors about the incident, but there are no leads or suspects at this time, the sheriff's office said.

It's not clear why the dog was inside the vehicle as temperatures rose above 90 degrees Monday afternoon.

Anyone with information regarding this or any other crime is asked to call the Weld County Sheriff's Office at (970) 356-4015 or Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
