JUNE 1 UPDATE: The person who died in this officer-involved shooting has been identified as Steven Edward Ferguson, 31. The manner of death is homicide, according to the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office.

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. – Deputies shot and killed a person just before 4 p.m. Thursday near Interstate 25 and Dry Creek Road in Centennial.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said two deputies were involved in the shooting and were not injured. The person who was shot died at the scene, the sheriff’s office said. Video from AirTracker7 showed a large scene outside of the Days Inn on E. Geddes Ave.

The sheriff’s office said deputies were “investigating criminal activity” on E. Geddes Ave. before the shooting but did not say what led deputies to shoot the person.

The gender and identity of the suspect have not been released, nor have any further details about the shooting.

The sheriff’s office said the two deputies are on standard paid leave and the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office will investigate.
