DENVER – Say hello to Penny! The red ruffed baby lemur is the newest resident at the Denver zoo.
Zoo officials announced Thursday the birth and public debut of Penny. She was born April 25 and had been spending time behind the scenes bonding with her mother, the zoo said in a release.
Penny’s parents, Sixpence, and father Mego, have had experience with newborns. Penny is the second birth for them after welcoming quadruplets in 2011.
As their name indicates, red ruffed lemurs are mostly covered with red fur, except for their black faces, feet and tails and white patches on the back of their necks.
The zoo says Penny is doing well and visitors will able to get a glimpse of the cute baby lemur starting Thursday at the Emerald Forest building.
