DENVER – Denver Public Works warned commuters Wednesday to be extra careful on the roads Tuesday evening ahead of a snowstorm.

Despite the warning, the snowstorm breezed past the metro area. Originally, city officials were concerned the weather could have caused flash freeze conditions during the evening rush hour. Snowfall earlier in the day may create wet streets that freeze when temperatures drop below freezing this evening.

Plows are on duty to drop de-icing materials, as needed. But crews say re-treating the roads will not be an option, as placing liquid down before a flash freeze situation would make the roads slicker.

For Denver and eastern Colorado, expect breezy winds with some light snow developing by midday. It won't be heavy, but about 1 to 2 inches is possible by tonight.
