DENVER -- A person is in custody and another remains at-large following an exchange of gunfire with police in west Denver Saturday evening.

Police were still looking for a 5-foot-8 Hispanic man wearing a dark-colored hoodie with a dark design after the suspect fired at Denver Police Department officers moments after they stopped a vehicle in the area of South Stuart Street and West Cedar Avenue at around 6:20 p.m.

John White, a spokesperson for the police department, said an officer stopped a vehicle with two people inside before the driver took off on foot.

A chase ensued and the driver fired several rounds at the officer, who returned fire. It was unclear if the suspect was injured, White said. No officers were hit.

Police sent out notification calls to neighbors in the area as the search for the suspect was underway.

If you have any information about this incident or the whereabouts of the suspect, you’re asked to call 911.
