DENVER — It may be the end of October, but why not think of next summer? For those planning on getting married in a Denver park in 2019, Nov. 1 is the first day that high-demand permits to hold those weddings or special events are made available.
“They go very quickly,” said Cyndi Karvaski of Denver’s Parks and Recreation Department.
A small line formed outside downtown’s Wellington Webb building starting on Wednesday afternoon. The doors to the building won’t open until 7:30 a.m. on Thursday.
“This is the sacrifice that has to be made to make sure you can make the whole day work,” Dan Kowalski said while sitting in that line.
Kowalski was waiting for a permit to get married in Cheesman Park in June.
“Hopefully I’ll get processed within a couple of hours and walk out with my permit,” he said.
Denver Parks and Rec said the line used to stretch around the block the day before the permits were available, with many people seeking the rights for events at Washington Park’s boathouse or the pavilion at City Park. That permitting has now been moved online, starting at midnight on Nov. 1.
However, high-demand permits for events like weddings at Cheeseman or other parks or locations must be done in person, starting at 7:30 a.m.
“What most people want will be gone (Thursday),” Karvaski said.
