DENVER – A suspect arrested in connection to the death of a man at a southwestern Denver home last week has been formally charged with murder.

Joe Pinheiro, 58, is charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators say Pinheiro shot and killed Philip Malinowski, 50, at a home in the 3200 block of West Saratoga Avenue on July 29.

According to the Denver District Attorney’s Office, Pinheiro then walked into the Sheridan Police Department and admitted to the killing, telling officers they would find Malinowski’s body in the basement of the home.

When officers arrived at the home, they found Malinowski in the basement with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Pinheiro is being held in the Denver jail.
