DENVER — It’s expected to be the busiest pre-Christmas travel day ever at Denver International Airport. Nearly 200,000 passengers are projected to pass through the airport Monday.

In total, more than 2.5 million passengers are expected through DIA between Dec. 20 and Jan. 2, a 4-percent increase over last year.

“It’s a little stressful (traveling) somewhere you don't know very well," said Kaylee Real, who was visiting from Dallas. “We got a little lost and then ended up on a bus to go to our Airbnb."

At the United Airlines ticket counter, lines wrapped all the way around the corner and into the main terminal on Level 6. Wait times on Monday were more than an hour just to check in.

If you are heading to DIA this holiday season, keep in mind all the construction.

Your best bet is to stick to Level 5 where baggage claim is located in order to get from one end of the terminal to the other unobstructed.
