DENVER -- Denver Health is warning residents to be aware of a scammer who's been calling people and pretending to be a paramedic while asking for personal information.

The organization said its paramedic division had received three reports of someone trying to scam residents recently.

The scammer claims to be a paramedic at the scene of a traffic crash involving a relative of whoever answers the phone and then asks for personal information, Denver Health said.

Paramedics from Denver Health do not ever call people and ask for personal information.

Anyone who receives such a call should make note of what the person says, hang up and then call local authorities, Denver Health said.
