Rush-hour shooting critically wounds woman, shuts down Aurora street

AURORA, Colo. – A shooting committed in broad daylight sent a woman to the hospital with critical injuries and snarled rush-hour traffic in Aurora Monday. Police are looking for the gunman.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of South Havana Street and East Mississippi Avenue on the Denver-Aurora line.

Aurora Police said two vehicles were traveling eastbound on East Mississippi Avenue when shots rang out just east of the intersection.

A woman inside a white Chevy sedan was shot and taken to the hospital with critical injuries. The victim's identity is not being released at this time.

The suspect vehicle took off, which police have yet to release a description of due to the ongoing investigation.

Video from the scene shows the back window of the Chevy sedan shot out. The shooting resulted in a three-vehicle crash.

Investigators from the homicide unit responded to the scene and are following on up leads and interviewing witnesses to determine what events lead up to the shooting and to identify potential suspect(s).

East Mississippi Avenue was shut down for several hours during the investigation.

No other details surrounding the shooting have been released.
