Snow is creating dangerous driving conditions across the metro area.

Roads and highways are covered with snow and blowing snow is impacting visibility in spots.

"All major highways snowing snowpacked & icy," CDOT tweeted at 8 a.m. "Use extreme caution especially on bridges & ramps."

Several cities are on accident alert, including Aurora, Thornton and Boulder.

The Colorado Department of Transportation took the unusual step of requiring chains for commercial vehicles on C-470 from Santa Fe to Interstate 70.

Some areas got 1-2 inches per hour early Tuesday morning.

Be sure to allow extra time and leave extra space between your vehicle and other vehicles.
