DENVER — One motorcyclist was transported to a hospital with serious injuries after a crash involving the motorcycle and a Denver police vehicle Friday morning.

The crash occurred at Gilpin Street and E. Colfax Avenue — a couple blocks north of Cheesman Park — around 5:45 a.m.

According to Jay Casillas with the Denver Police Department, the officer was driving westbound on Colfax and made a U-turn on Gilpin Street to head eastbound on Colfax when the officer's vehicle collided with the motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

It is not yet clear how the crash happened or who was at fault.

E. Colfax Avenue was closed in the area and reopened just before 9 a.m.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
