ALAMOSA, Colo. — A man and woman killed during a confrontation with law enforcement officers following a stolen vehicle chase in southern Colorado have been identified.

The Alamosa County Coroner identified the two suspects as Nelson Billings, 26, and Jennifer Sharp, 37, both of Lavaca, Texas.

Authorities said the two may have been living in the town of Moffat at the time of the incident.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation said Saguache County sheriff's deputies attempted to make contact with the suspects Saturday morning in Moffat but they fled in a stolen Jeep Patriot.

The stolen vehicle was later stopped near the Alamosa County line and authorities say Billings and Sharp got out, with one of them carrying a shotgun.

Alamosa County Sheriff Robert Jackson  told  KKTV that Sharp was killed following an exchange of gunfire with officers.

Colorado Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Susan Medina said Sunday that it's believed Billings shot himself. No officers were hurt.

The Colorado State Patrol has released the name of the trooper involved in the incident. Trooper Ramiro Contreras has been with the CSP since 2007. Trooper Contreras was placed on paid administrative leave per policy.
