FIRESTONE, Colo. -- Community members came together Wednesday after a home explosion in Firestone took the lives of Mark Martinez and Joey Irwin Monday evening.

Erin Martinez and her son were also inside the home at the time of the fire and Martinez, a science teacher at Mountain Ridge High School in Westminster, remains in critical condition, according to officials.

Denver7 spoke to some of her students who said her absence in the classroom is greatly missed.

“She is a great teacher, I love her. She is just amazing, she explains things very well to her students... just overall great teacher,” Mountain Ridge student Christa Thammabuhe told Denver7.

Residents in both Fredrick and Firestone have stepped in to help both families.

Shawna Bingham turned her Black Jack Pizza shop in Firestone into a drop off location.
