Colorado State trooper shoots, kills suspect near Grand Junction in Mesa County

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Authorities are investigating a shooting involving a Colorado State trooper in Mesa County Saturday that left a suspect dead. The trooper was not injured.

It happened around 9 a.m. on Highway 50 and 29 Road near Grand Junction in Mesa County. The suspect has been identified as 33-year-old Jayson Thompson of Bisbee, Arizona.

The Colorado State Patrol did not release any other details surrounding the incident and are referring media inquires to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, which did not divulge additional information citing an ongoing investigation.

The 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team will be investigating the shooting.
