COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Plans to close the coal-fired Martin Drake Power Plant are in question because Colorado Springs Utilities won't meet its five-year conservation goal to cut energy demand by 12 percent.

The utility's manager of renewable energy says the utility may have to find other ways to save energy.

Advocates say the utility isn't trying hard enough to conserve energy.

According to the Colorado Springs Gazette,  other utilities have lower residential power rates and they met goals to get 30 percent of their power from renewable energy sources.
