DENVER — The Colorado State Board of Education approved dozens of school construction projects totaling more than $401 million in June.
Money for the improvements will come from the Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) grant program. State officials said approximately $129 million of the 2019 awards will be funded by income earned from the Colorado State Land Board, marijuana excise taxes, spillover from the Colorado Lottery and interest on the Capital Construction Assistance Fund.
The grants are intended to improve health, safety, security and technology in public schools.
The projects range from roof repairs to complete school replacements. The list includes:
- Douglas County Schools: $128,651 to replace the roof at Trailblazer Elementary School
- Eaton Schools: $478,886 to install secure entrances district-wide.
- Denver Public Schools: $4,815,653 for improvements to George Washington High School and Gilpin Elementary School.
- JeffCo Schools: $2,000,000 for its fiber network infrastructure

Since 2008, BEST has funded 354 grants in 141 school districts for a total of $2.1 billion in projects, state officials said.
