Plan on getting a new driver’s license on a different day. Many Colorado DMV offices are closed Tuesday to get ready for the rollout of new licenses.
Offices will begin issuing the state’s new license design over the next two weeks. One-day closures will allow for installation of new equipment and training.
The day of each office's closure will vary. The Department of Motor Vehicle suggests checking online before heading to a specific office.
The pictures on the new IDs are gray for security reasons, and the information is laser inscribed. The DMV has also added an image of Mount Sneffels on the front of the card. Located in the San Juan Mountain Range west of Ouray and north of Telluride, this peak climbs to 14,158 feet making it the 27th tallest mountain in the state. This new design will be available through online renewal starting later this month.
The older version of IDs will remain valid until the expiration date.
