A climber fell about 200 feet to his death in Pitkin County Monday.

A climber in the Christiana Peak area called for help at 5:45 p.m., the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office said.

The climber said one person had fallen and a second person was stranded on a cliff.

Flight for Life dropped Mountain Rescue Aspen volunteers at Capitol Lake at approximately 7:50 p.m. The rescuers were able to reach the stranded climber and help him down to the lake in the dark.

The volunteer rescuers set up camp and spent the night at the lake.

The Pitkin County Sheriff's Office and Mountain Rescue Aspen hoped to recover the body of the fallen climber Tuesday morning.
