DENVER – One of the last of Denver’s iconic diners is closing its doors for good. Denver Diner announced Sunday that it will not reopen.

The diner has been a staple on the corner of Colfax and Speer for more than 30 years. But the restrictions placed on the business amid the COVID-19 pandemic appeared to have contributed to owner’s decision not to reopen.

The diner closed in November when Denver went to Level Red on the state's COVID-19 dial. However, the city moved down to a less restrictive level earlier this month, which allowed for indoor dining at 25% capacity.

“It’s with great sadness that we announce our decision to not reopen. Read the article if you would like to learn more. We may be gone now but not forever,” Denver Diner wrote on its Facebook page, with a link to a Westwood article announcing the closure.

The restaurant's general manager, Konstantine Skordos, told Denver7 that he hopes to open another Denver Diner soon, when it’s safe to do so, but it won’t be at the same location.
