AURORA, Colo. -- The Cherry Creek State Park Dog Off Leash Area (DOLA) is back open. It was closed the first four days this week for maintenance and improvements.

The most noticeable change will be the entrance/exit areas. They are now separated in an attempt to ease congestion on the park that sees more than a million visitors each year. This was the first ever closure for the park, which was tough on regulars.

“Oh it’s been horrible. My dogs – it’s like a hostage situation when they can’t come. They literally push me to the door, so the last few days I’ve had to take them for a walk them in the neighborhood and it’s been terrible. I tell people I would not have dogs if this park didn’t exist,” dog owner Samantha Rowe said.

Other landscaping and maintenance was done to the park, which was very noticeable to people who came Friday morning once it re-opened.
