DENVER — Experts at the Colorado Department of Transportation are dissecting a fatal crash that closed I-70 over the weekend, killing two people on Sunday.
Officials told Denver7 on Tuesday they would be looking into new tools that could help prevent fatal crashes, such as guardrails that might stop drivers from veering off the road and into oncoming traffic, such as what happened on Sunday.

In that fatal crash, police say Jeffery Stumpf drove a pickup truck straight into an oncoming jeep. Although police have yet to say why, police say they located two alcohol containers inside Stumpf's vehicle.
Authorities say they're looking into statistics about the road that have led to crashes such as that fatal wreck, including the size of the median and how busy the roadway is. CDOT says the median is larger than average at 80 feet, and more than 20,000 vehicles travel the corridor each day.
Moving forward, officials say they will finalize a formal crash report and continue to dig through data to come up with a solution that they say hopefully will prevent another death.
