DENVER — Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced Thursday morning that as of Jan. 1, 2020, all of Colorado's 41 state parks will require campers to book their campsites ahead of time.

Campers can make these arrangements starting six months in advance all the way up to the moment they arrive at the park and find an available campsite. Anybody can reserve a site 24/7 online at www.CPWshop.com/campinghome.page or by calling 800-244-5613.

This reservation system eliminates the need for campers to gamble on first-come, first served spots.

This program was tested at a handful of parks in 2018 and additional parks were added in 2019.

Campers who set up in a site without a reservation may be cited and moved from the space.

CPW noted that some state parks, including Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, Golden Gate Canyon, State Forest and Highline have spotty cell service, so if you plan to camp at those locations, you're encouraged to make reservations ahead of time.
