BROOMFIELD, Colo. — BROOMFIELD, Colo. — Several Broomfield police officers spent a good part of Sunday morning looking for debris from United Airlines flight 328.
A right engine failure caused an explosion Saturday afternoon as the Boeing 777 was heading from Denver to Honolulu.
AirTracker7 showed the debris scattered across the Broomfield area, including County Commons Park.
On Sunday, pieces of the engine could still be seen on the ground, although in sometimes hard-to-find places.
David Clemans, who lives near Broomfield County Commons Park, also found some small pieces during his morning walk. He says the park is typically packed on a normal weekend.
"There can be several hundred people, kids and families playing soccer on these soccer fields here and football fields over there," Clemans said.
Although the debris did cause some damage to nearby homes, it's a miracle no one was hurt.
"It could have been a lot worse. That's for sure. We're just all very, very fortunate," Clemans said.
The pilot and crew immediately flew the plane back to Denver International Airport and landed safely. No one was injured.
