JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Authorities released the identity Tuesday of the man whose body was recovered after he was swept away in Clear Creek Sunday.

Arvada Fire’s Swift Water Rescue team pulled 28-year-old Jesus Baca-Estrada from the water near a pedestrian bridge that spans the creek near U.S. 6 and State Highway 93 Sunday night.

Firefighters attempted CPR on Baca-Estrada after he was pulled from the creek, but they were unable to revive him. The 28-year-old Denver man was pronounced dead at the scene, a spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.

Baca-Estrada was in the creek wading with five other people near Tunnel 1 in the canyon when he got too close to the current and was swept away, the sheriff’s office said.

An autopsy has been performed, and the cause of death is drowning, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office stated.
