CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. — A body believed to be that of a missing Denver preschool teacher was located.
Peter McInerney, 65, was last seen cross-country skiing in Clear Creek County on February 18. His body was found in the area of Jones Pass and Money Peak Thursday morning.
The body was discovered by Alpine Rescue Team members just south of where a backpack was found last Thursday.
McInerney worked as a preschool teacher at the Park Hill Children's Center in Denver. Coworkers became concerned when he failed to show up for work the Tuesday following the day was last seen. School officials say the beloved preschool teacher had never missed a day of work.
He was reported missing the next day, and an extensive search was launched. During the multi-day search, his car was found abandoned and covered in snow at the Jones Pass trailhead, but there was no sign of the missing teacher.
Thursday’s search consisted of members from the Clear Creek Sheriff’s Office along with Alpine Rescue Team and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
The process to recover his body was ongoing as of Thursday afternoon.
The Clear Creek County Coroner’s office will conduct a death investigation to determine the cause and manner of death.
