DENVER - Republican gubernatorial nominee Bob Beauprez is clarifying a remark he made about sending the Colorado National Guard to the Mexican border.
Beauprez was asked on a KNUS-AM radio show whether he would send troops if the Texas governor asked him to. Beauprez said that he would if asked.
After the interview, Beauprez's campaign staff clarified the remark. They told The Denver Post that the former congressman would only send Colorado troops on a humanitarian mission, not a military effort.
Since July 21, Texas Gov. Rick Perry has dispatched hundreds of Texas National Guard troops to help local law enforcement turn back those trying to cross the border illegally.
