DENVER — Authorities identified Wednesday the man shot several times by Denver officers in the city’s Montbello neighborhood Tuesday night.
Juan Sanchez Jimenez, 26, who police say was armed with a gun, was struck several times as two responding officers opened fire amid a reported domestic violence incident in-progress, according to a release from the Denver Police Department. The female victim, who had called 911, was not injured in the shooting.
Jimenez was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. An officer was also transported to the hospital for evaluation of a hearing-related injury caused by the sounds from the shots fired, the release read.
The shooting happened around 8 p.m. at a home in the 13900 block of E. Randolph Place. Officers were called to the home on a domestic violence complaint, according to police.
According to a probable cause statement, Jimenez allegedly pistol whipped his wife after he received photos showing the victim and her ex-husband having an affair.
A booking photo for Jimenez is not available as he remains hospitalized. He is facing charges of first degree assault and felony menacing.
The two officers involved in the incident have been placed administrative leave, which police said is protocol.
Denver police said the investigation is ongoing and no other details will be released.
