FRISCO, Colo. — Authorities have identified a man arrested following an officer-involved shooting in the Frisco Whole Foods parking lot Monday night.
Derek Baker, a 33-year-old resident of Loveland, was wounded in the arm after a Frisco officer shot two rounds into the suspect’s moving vehicle that authorities say “threatened the officer’s personal safety.”
Baker was transported to the hospital where he was treated and then released into police custody.
It all started when police responded to the store, located at 261 Lusher Court, around 7:30 p.m. on a report of a person acting erratically inside the Whole Foods market, according to a release from the Frisco Police Department.
When police arrived, officers made contact with Baker in the store's parking lot. At some point during the contact, a Frisco officer, fearing for their safety, shot two rounds into a car driven by Baker, according to police. No officers were injured.
Baker has been booked into the Summit County Detention facility on charges of attempted vehicular assault, menacing, eluding and disorderly conduct.
Baker's advisement hearing has been postponed due to the suspect's medical issue that is not directly related to this incident, according to release from the Office of the District Attorney Fifth Judicial District. His hearing will be rescheduled as soon as he is capable of appearing in court, the release read.
The investigation into the shooting has been taken over by Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
The officer who shot Baker has been placed on administrative leave by the Town of Frisco Police Department, which authorities say is standard practice in such an incident.
