AURORA, Colo. -- A mother feels justice is not being served after learning the driver who hit her son and fled may never serve time.
Last June, then 17-year-old Javion Hurd was hit by a driver on Colfax and Peoria Street. The driver fled and was later charged.
Javion suffered a broken jaw and pelvis along with three brain hemorrhages. His body has healed but his traumatic brain injury left him with memory loss and confusion.
His mother was furious to learn just days ago the driver, Eldow Jabeldo, accepted a plea.
“I wanted him to feel how it feels to be in jail and have something taken from you," Sheriece Furness said. "Javion has had life taken from him. He doesn’t have an 18-year-old’s life -- he’s homebound.”
The District Attorney's Office would not comment on the plea deal or the case until after sentencing.
Eldow Jabeldo pleaded guilty for attempting to leave the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury. He plead not guilty to tampering with evidence and careless driving among other charges.
He will be sentenced on August 22.
