AURORA, Colo. — Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman announced Sunday that he has coronavirus.
“I have COVID-19,” Coffman tweeted.
The mayor said he wasn’t feeling well after coming home from work late Thursday morning. He initially thought it was a mild cold.
“Not to take any chances, I cleared my schedule to work from home until I could get tested just to make sure I didn't have COVID-19,” Coffman tweeted.
My symptoms had cleared by Saturday so I went to an urgent care clinic today to get a rapid test so I could be able to go back to the office on Monday and resume my schedule. Unfortunately, the results of the test were positive. I will have to quarantine at home. (2/2)

Coffman said his symptoms cleared up by Saturday. However, he tested positive for the virus on Sunday.
“I went to an urgent care clinic today to get a rapid test so I could be able to go back to the office on Monday and resume my schedule. Unfortunately, the results of the test were positive. I will have to quarantine at home,” he tweeted.
Gov. Jared Polis’ office said Sunday the governor would not need to quarantine despite seeing the mayor last week.
"TCHD disease control investigators conducted an interview with Mayor Coffman this afternoon and have determined that there is no risk to Gov. Polis of being exposed to COVID-19 from Mayor Coffman during a joint appearance they had together on Oct. 15,” spokesperson Conor Cahill said in a statement. “Therefore, Gov. Polis and others at that event with Mayor Coffman have been informed that they do not need to quarantine as a result of this situation. While the Governor was prepared to quarantine, he is relieved that there isn’t a reason to do so under health guidance."
The 65-year-old former congressman was sworn in as Aurora’s mayor in 2019.
