IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. — An Arizona man on a guided rafting trip died following an accident on Clear Creek Monday morning, according to a news release from the Clear County Sheriff’s Office.

At 10:30 a.m., authorities received a report of a rafting accident in the 2500 block of Stanley Road near Idaho Springs.

The 50-year-old man was receiving CPR before emergency responders arrived on scene. But efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. He was declared dead on scene at 11:11 a.m., the sheriff’s office release read.

The man, whose identity is being withheld until next of kin is notified, was taking a guided rafting trip on Clear Creek with the Down Stream Rafting Company. Official details as to how the accident occurred have not been released.

Monday’s death is one of at least nine in Colorado waters this season. Snowmelt from an above-average season is causing dangerous conditions on the state’s rivers and creeks.

Jefferson County authorities placed restrictions Monday at noon on activities in Clear Creek in unincorporated parts of the county and Golden. They said there are safety concerns surrounding swift-moving water and floating debris.
