ARVADA, Colo. — The idea crossed Tawni Murphi's mind more than once — what if she couldn't give her children the Christmas she planned?

"You just want to protect your kids as much as possible and sometimes you can't do that and it is very difficult," she said.

Last Saturday, the Murphi family came home from a Christmas party. After going inside, Tawni Murphi's husband went back to their truck and that's when two men in a SUV approached him.

"They made him then get face-down on the ground and sat on his back with the gun against his head, while the other one rummaged through his pockets and grabbed his wallet and his keys and took off in his truck," she said.

The truck was totaled.

When the Arvada Fire Department found out what happened, they stepped in to help and added the Murphis to the list of families they hand out toys to.

"It wasn't until they saw the fire truck with the lights on coming down the street that they figured it out. I was very overwhelmed with emotion, just the fact that how amazing this was, and how happy to see my kids' faces, and to see their smiles and excitement was more than anything I could ask for."

For the Murphi family, it is a reminder of the good that can still be found and the impact an act of kindness can have.
