DENVER — Here are seven things to do this weekend across the Denver area. Have fun and stay safe!
1. This weekend is the FINAL weekend of One Book Colorado! From now until Oct. 25, every four-year-old in the state can pick up a free copy of this year’s One Book Colorado book, The Little Red Fort, by Brenda Maier, from their local library. Books will also be distributed to students in Denver Preschool Program classrooms. The book is available in both English and Spanish.
2. Check out Jazzed, a virtual music event benefitting Inner City Health Center. On Friday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. you can enjoy music, fun and inspiring testimonies of why Inner City Health Center is worthy of support. Music guests include Hazel Miller, Chris Daniels, and the Stukey Singers from Stukey Elementary. The event will be hosted by Murphy Huston from KOSI and Katie LaSalle from Denver7. 3. The Annual Fall Festival and Maze at Flat Acres Farm is now open every Thursday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Halloween. There will be plenty of activities for the family to enjoy this year. Activities are geared for the age group 10 years and younger. Make sure to visit the pumpkin patch during your visit so you can pick out that perfect pumpkin for carving. They have pumpkins of many sizes and colors along with fall decorations such as corn stalks, straw bales and gourds. Check out the petting zoo to see all of the new animals they have this year! Tickets are purchased in personal at the Fall Festivals and COVID-19 safety guidelines must be followed.
4. Join The Orchard Town Center for Dinner and a Murder, a night of mystery, murder and mayhem all from the comfort of your own vehicle. Orchard Town Center is hosting a drive-in and dine-in family-friendly murder mystery to a live film production of “A Midnight Masquerade” by The Murder Mystery Company. From Oct. 23-30, grab your friends/family and use your detective skills to figure out who the murderer is and why they did it. Tickets include admission to the murder mystery drive-in, $20 gift card to a participating Orchard restaurant to help with dinner cost and a clue packet.
5. Once the sun goes down, the dark side of Fritzler Farm Park comes alive at Scream Acres. The chilling creatures, who lurk in the corn, come out to shake visitors to the core. Tickets grant access to general admission attractions including Scream Acres, Fritzler’s Hop House (beer garden) access (purchase required for drinks), yard games and select farm attractions. 6. It’s full steam ahead for tricks treats and trains! Join the Colorado Railroad Museum for the Trick or Treat Train on Saturday, Oct. 24 and Sunday, Oct. 25. The event will feature Stream Train Rides behind newly restored, 1899-vintage Rio Grande Southern steam locomotive No. 20, plus lots of socially distanced Family fun! Get your tickets before it sells out!
7. Starting Oct. 25, you can experience Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, an Mexican Modernism from the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection. This exhibit explores modernism movement through more than 150 artworks and takes a closer look at the role that art, artists and their supporters played in the emergence of national identity and creative spirit after the Mexican Revolution ended in 1920. Guests will view featured paintings and photographs by internationally celebrated artists Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Lola Álvarez Bravo, Gunther Gerzso, María Izquierdo, Carlos Mérida and others.
